We love this budget friendly and simple home made salsa recipe, and best of all – it’s so cheap and easy to make. You can vary this up with any seasonings you like, but below are the standard ones I tend to use. I would encourage you to have a look at the ingredients in your store bought salsa as well (usually it has heaps of sugar added!).
Simple salsa recipe:
Ingredients:
- 400 ml diced tomatoes (you can also add fresh tomatoes if you prefer)
- 1 tsp lemon or lime juice
- half a yellow or red onion (diced small)
- 1 tsp coriander leaves (fresh coriander works too)
- salt and pepper to taste
- Chilli powder (optional, for an extra kick)
- A pinch of sugar (optional, but this will cut the acidity of the tomatoes)
How to make it:
- Use a strainer to drain some of the tomato liquid out of the tomatoes (about 1/4 cup)
- Stir in lemon/lime juice, onion and your seasonings
- Optional: Add a pinch of sugar for extra sweetness and some chilli powder for extra spice
- Stir together and store in an airtight container in your fridge for 3-4 days.
